A new start. And another one.

Wow. I'm still reeling from the last couple of weeks. It has been mad. Not the rushing-hither-and-thither kind of mad, but dealing-with-a-lot-of-difficult-stuff kind of mad. Honey buns. My son going to school full-time for the first time in his life and not liking it one bit, throwing bitter accusations my way in the most heartbreaking (and unintelligible) manner on a daily basis. I've been to our old house for the first time in over four months and I've repeatedly talked to the one I left behind, even meeting once to celebrate Pelle's fourth birthday. All of this while my therapist and meditation guru is away on vacation, so you can imagine there was very little I could do to preserve a semblance of sanity except to wallow in self-pity and to succumb to a serious case of startitis. I mean. Serious. Startitis. I think you may say my startitis has morphed into startospasm. I know I have my Fremme birds, I know I have my Pistols, I have my garden and my pumpkins and when he comes home after a day of hard graft at school I have my son, but still it isn't enough. I want more, more, more, and I want it NOW. And so, without further ado, here's what I've been wanting and doing.

As promised in my previous post, a fob featuring a motif from the Blue Lady chart:

Stitched on low count white linen with Danish Flower Thread. I love the look of this fob so much, I started a needlecase with another motif to go with it. As you see, I'm trying to get my money's worth from this design :o)

I've started a sampler I told you about a couple of posts ago. The one using GAST Cinders:

(Notice the prop for my thread ring) This design is from the June 2008 issue of Cross Country Stitching magazine. Can anyone tell me why the lovely Michelle Ozark Stitcher and I are the only living souls in Blogland who seem to like this magazine and Jeremiah Junction designs in general? I don't get it. I LOVE this mag. Absolutely love it. In every issue there is at least one (but oftentimes more) must-stitch design and I'm very thankful that the local bookshop here has been able to order it for me, so I don't have to travel halfway across the country every two months to get my copy. Can't wait for the next issue!

Next start... came as a shocking surprise to me as well. It's Blackbird Designs' Rites of Spring, the second Loose Feathers design of this year. First time I clapped eyes on it I thought 'neh'. Nothing compared with Where My Heart Blooms. And before I knew it, two nights ago, I was plugging merrily away. It is an amazingly quick and addictive stitch and I'm afraid I might finish this one before I'm halfway through Where My Heart Blooms.

You may think that my starts as shown here are not as impressive as you might have hoped at the beginning of this post, but if I tell you I started and finished two other projects that I took to the (cheap!) framer's before I even got the chance to take a picture of the finished product, I think your awe of my determination to start and finish will increase. Add to that the fact that I agreed to do a Halloween floss ring tag exchange with Harmien (who has shamelessly asked for a scissors' fob to go with it) which I've already started and nearly finished, and your admiration of my diligence must be complete.

And what think you, my dear readers, of these babies?

Aren't they sweet?

Until next time!

What? Do I see a pumpkin? You mean you weren't just growing big green leaves in that garden LOL LOL LOL.
I am so sorry my dear that the stress in your life is not decreasing yet. I know it's an old saying but hang in there "There will be light at the end of the tunnel".

Pumpkins and Pelle seem to be growing along at a good and steady pace. Both look well-rounded and very healthy.
All those wonderful starts! I wish I could even get to that stage. I think I have "pre-startitis". Take all the stuff out...chart, floss, fabric...mull it over for a few hours then put it all away. Repeat this cycle three or four more times with new chart, floss ,fabric etc., and you have the state that I'm in right now.

I hope Pelle comes to like and enjoy his school. It must be tough for him being away from you especially since the recent turmoil maybe that's why he's lashing out in that way. I hope he settles in well and has a great time there.

Nice stitching pics!

Actually, I was totally impressed with your starts before you even mentioned the two that had already been hurried off to the framer. That additional info left me completely speechless! Well, maybe not completely speechless, since I'm still typing this. But believe me, I'm really, really close! (P.S. That pumpkin prop is too cute!)

I love your writing. Always a pleasure when you post. Wish I were as creative with words as you are.
Happy stitching !

Zeg, mijn brutale verzoek betekent wel dat jij uiteraard OOK een bijpassend fobje krijgt, hoor!! Alleen vandaag nog even niet, want de poppetjes van mijn ogen werken nog niet helemaal mee... :o(

I hadn't seen your new blog post last night when I sent you an email. Startitis isn't so bad, especially if it gets you over the rough stuff. Better than, say, binge eating. LOL.

So sorry Pelle's having a rough time getting used to school. I've told you that Max cried every morning that I took him to daycare for ... a long time ... and then all of a sudden, things clicked and he now LOVES school. I think our boys are critters who just have to do things at their own pace, and sometimes that does not match the pace the world sets for them. Sending you lots of positive thoughts, and hugs, and other good stuff. Share them with Pelle. :)

Take care, Annemarie!

Startitis never did a stitcher any harm! I will look forward to seeing what you get back from the framer too. And, that pumpkin, it's beautiful! Hope your strees dwindles away soon.

Look at all of your great starts and sweet growing babies :) It can be hard to start school (for the little ones and the mamas!) Hopefully Pelle will get used to the new routine soon and enjoy himself.

That Harmien...what a hoot, lol!

Oh I have to tell you again that I really, really enjoy reading your posts, I just love your writing! I'm sorry to hear that you've had hard time lately. I hope Pelle will soon like going to school, it can be difficult sometimes... (We have a (pre)teen in the house and that's not easy sometimes either :) ) Anyway, I hope everything will be better soon!

Pelle looks so cute and so does your pumpkin!! And your new starts! New starts can really help in difficult situations :)

I noticed your prop before you mentioned it! Too cute.
Lovely starts - I like especially Rites of Spring.

Sorry to hear Pelle does not like his school - I had a problem with my son too many years ago. But remember the upset you have suffered he has suffered too and he too must find it hard to understand. Keep positive - time is a great healer.

Oh would you just look at that pumpkin!!! Loving it. I really could not resist the temptation and bought a car load of pumpkins and gourds this weekend up north while at our cottage. Oh the joy! Autumn is coming. Pelle is really getting big and I am sorry he is having a hard time adjusting to school. He probably just loves being with you and hates being seperated. Things will get better after a couple of weeks I am sure.

The fob is adorable. Can't wait to see the Halloween exchange items. It is getting so close now. You are I am both needing to seek solace in our stitching right now. It really does help!

Hugs ~
Heidi

My you have been busy. I loved seeing how Blue Lady is progressing in your earlier post, and the needle set you're making with some of the designs looks wonderful. You've gotten a nice start on your new BBD one as well.

Sorry that Pelle isn't enjoying school yet. It is so hard when our children are unhappy but they still have to do what it is they don't like. It is so frustrating as a parent not to be able to "fix" it. Hopefully he'll settle in soon and things will be easier. {{hugs}}

Well, startitis or finishitis (my problem), we can live with it, can't we? The designs are great, love the fob!

Congratulations on Pelles 4th birthday! It's a milestone here in the Netherlands.
Sorry to read he's not liking school very much. Keep your fingers crossed it's only a matter of time.

Your pumpkins grow like crazy, like they should. And seeing the flowers, they're not done yet.

Hi An~I was sure I had your e-mail but no more....I wanted to answer your PS floss question - the Crescent Colours is only being used in the Christmas kit! The regular designs they release are still using good ol' DMC.

Don't worry about Pelle - my son hated nursery school, hated kindergarten, and hated all school ever since. But he loves to socialize so if not for that aspect, it would be impossible to make him go. Boys are just different?

Oooh....pumpkins!

Shouldn't you have to travel halfway (at least) cross country to get Cross Country Stitching? LOL! I've done some of the Jeremiah Junction dogs. Can I be in the club?

I haven't experienced your pain, but I've witnessed it. I used to be a teacher's aide and it was always hard at the start of kindergarten for students who had stayed at home with their moms most of their young life. Ask the teacher for a short note regarding what he can expect the next day and then talk it up; Tomorrow you're going to talk about the letter A and what things do you like that begin with the letter a...Lets think, how about Alligator! Yes, thats right, tell your teacher tomorrow you like alligators and they begin with the letter A.
I know its hard now, but it'll eventually change. My thoughts are with you.
Enjoy your new projects. I completely understand how they can bring a little peace to a stressful times. Hugs!

Hello Annemarie,

You and Michelle aren't the only two that like Cross Country stitching. I do love their designs and even manage to stitch one now and then. There is one design in particular that I love and have been wanting to stitch. Maybe someday I'll actually have the time to do it. I'll post a picture of it on my blog.

I think it's great that starting new projects helps you cope with things. I say GO FOR IT! Hugs to both you and Pelle as you continue to work things out.

Pelle is getting so big - sorry to hear he's having a hard time with school. :(

Your stitching looks great - nothing wrong with a little startitis, especially if it gives you some relief from the stress you've been delaing with.

I'm looking forward to seeing more pumpkin-goodness! ;) Be well!
