Made with love

On the eve of my 38th birthday, I've done three things I'm really proud of.

1. In the category 'culinary endeavours' (which don't feature often in this blog) (and for good reason) (I think cooking is best left to people who don't make a habit of burning their hair whilst dousing chicken with port wine) (which I have been known to do on occasion) (but since everyone's bound to be expecting pumpkin soup tomorrow and I couldn't find pumpkin soup in a tin I had to make my own): Pumpkin Soup a la Annemarie

With nothing but a little water, a whole lot of pumpkin, a bit of seasoning and some truffle oil. Hopefully none of this will prove fatal.

2. In the category 'selfish stitching is all good and well, but sometimes you have to make an exception': a gift for someone who's coming to my birthday/sip 'n' stitch party tomorrow. She's not a stitcher, but she's frightfully interested in every stitchy thing she's ever seen displayed in my house. My tactic will be to overwhelm her with stitching until she caves, just to get me to stop talking about stitching (which never works, but what does she know?). My success rate is quite high, and so are my hopes of succeeding this time. Anyway, if this gift doesn't do the trick, I don't know what will (she said humbly)

It's Winter Song by Blackbird Designs, taken from this year's JCS X-mas ornie issue. I used the fabric in the background for the backing.

3. In the category 'I don't know why the hay this took me a whole MONTH to finish, but finish it I did'

Fruitful Clusters by The Goode Huswife. Actually, I do know why it took me so long: I enjoyed it so much, I didn't want it to end!

Plans for November:
1. Finish Katrina's Neighbourhood RR
2. Finish Kathy's Neighbourhood RR
3. Work on my parents' 40th anniversary sampler

So you see, no selfish stitching for me for at least a month. Boo.

Hope you're enjoying a lovely, autumnal weekend!

Happy Birthday Ms. Scorpio. : ) Feel good that you are almost 11 yrs younger than me.
Your stitching looks fabulous as does your soup. Did you strain it a bunch? I do tend to use the puree out of the can. Try some pureed as a pasta sauce-yum!

Cool 'proud' things, they all look excellent, as for the soup... well tomorrow will tell ;-) but it sure looks tempting enough to me !

I love your BBD stocking , I have just finished stitching the same one . Your backing fabric is VERY nice and I hope the whole thing does do the trick of converting your friend to be one of us LOL. Look what magic you weaved on Harmien and how fantastic she is with a needle since you got to her !!

Your GH finish is gorgeous too , nice to have a finish even though you do have to stop stitching to get one ;-))

Have a the BEST sip n stitch day with your friends only wish I could have joined you all, have fun

Happy Birthday Annemarie! The pumpkin soup looks delicious, hope it was a big hit.

I try to look at the round robins as though I am stitching for myself because in the end I will have a gorgeous piece that was stitched for me. My personal goal is to be finished with all my round robin commitments by the end of November. I've decided 2008 was not a year for selfish stitching but 2009 will be the year for me :-).

Happy Birthday. Of course the long-awaited gift and card are still sitting here in my "to be mailed when someone drops a huge bag of money in my yard" pile. I really have no trouble actually REMEMBERING to get gifts and cards...it is just the outrageous postal rates that slow me down. Rest assured it will be winging it's way to you some time before the end of 2008! I too have set myself a-flame with the stove. First date with hubby I thought it would be cool/hip/sexy to light his cigarette from the stove burner...hey, give me a break it was the 80's. Anyway, I got a little more "lit" then the cig and singed the front off(yes OFF, not of) my hair.

I love the Fruitful Clusters too - at least you have one stitching for yourself to tie you over in November. Have a Happy Birthday week and hope you get spoiled rotten!

Happy belated birthday to you! I've never had pumpkin soup before. Did it live up to your hopes? And, I just have to ask, was it made from your very own pumpkins??

Love the BD ornament. Fabulous choice for the backing. "Fruitful Clusters" is wonderful as well, but then you probably already knew that, didn't you?

Will you be stitching the 40th anniversary sampler on 40-count fabric?? LOL!
