All that stuff that has been happening was so stressful that stitching wasn't even helping. Stitching is meditation; that is something I think we all agree on. A glass of warm milk or hot honeyed tea, to soothe the mind and mellow the mood. But sometimes you just need a big swig of something strong. To hell with meditation: bring on forgetfulness. Well, the Remains of the Day journals I told you about last time is my swig of Drambuie, so I went ahead and put together another cover. Here it is. The papers strewn around it are the innards of the book that have yet to be sewn together, which will happen in the course of this day.
Harmien was here last Tuesday and we had a wonderfully fabulous stitchy day. Last week - when I was visiting her - we decided to get back to our Village of Hawk Run Hollow SAL and to make it a monthly event. We now had two sessions in March and we will have at least one very long session next week, because Harmien will be staying over. Hooray! Here's Harmien, who didn't want her picture taken (can you tell?) showing you our Villages. The first is hers, the second is mine (big surprise):

And here's a close-up picture of mine as it looks right now.
Here's a little quiz for you (no prizes. I can only (barely) handle so many!). I ask this question every time I post a pic of my Village, but that happens so rarely that my entire reading audience has changed by the time I ask it again. I made a huge boo-boo in Block 5 (the one with the trees and the birds and the words) which I fixed in my own unique way. Apparently, it's incredibly difficult to spot. Even Harmien, who had our two Blocks 5 lying side by side, had a very hard time figuring it out, though the boo-boo is really very much in your face. I wonder how many of you can tell which part of the design I changed to accomodate this error. Knowing me, I will probably make similar huge mistakes in every single Block, but I don't care. Frogging is something to be avoided at all possible costs. Obviously.
Okay. Off to ... well. Just off :o)
Yours slightly pixilatedly,
Annemarie.

I see it! (I think, anyway). You have an "&" instead of "and" (top row of verse) and there's an extra little birdie on the first tree :)
Good luck with your progress, both yours and Harmien's are looking great!
Me again... this is because the A of All is bigger than it should be, right?
Instead of 'and' is '&' and to fill the space you added another bird in the trees.
I've stitched this one too, so it was quite easy to compare both pieces ;0)
This way you give it a very personal touch.
Look how far along Ms. Harmien is!!! From my calculations she has what 3 blocks left?
You are about where I am, I've got three blocks done and am almost done with my 4th :)
I've been working on mine too every month (or trying too)!
Oooh a SAL, and an in-person one at that. I am so jealous. None of my stitchy friends live anywhere near to me. All of my Hawk Run Hollow series just sit there, in the form of charts, staring at me begging to be stitched.
If I could just tear myself away from my form of stress therepy, knitting socks. Winter is long over and I really need to move on.
Have fun with your HRH SAL! I don't know what your mistakes (you should call them personalizations) you made to yours because I don't have the pattern to compare it to, but it looks beautiful anyway! Have fun with your other crafty projects too.
Only because you had me curious did I biggify Harmien's and compare, LOL ;) I think your's is equally beautiful and I have the same severe avoidance of frogging too!!!
The editor in me spotted the ampersand and the extra bird (both of which look just fabulous, I might add), but I wasn't the first to report it. Drat! What did it? The "A" too long? The tree too short? (By the by, I must be "new" to your blog because I don't remember the previous installments of the Spot the Change in Block 5 game.)
Hope your stitching/sewing efforts brighten your day, but stressing out about sending little ol' me a promised giveaway is NOT what you need. Remember, I'm a declared long-term reader. You've got time . . .
I only know because you showed it to me. LOL.
Great to hear from you, and to sort-of see Harmien. :D
Apparently some stitchers have this pattern memorized. As an inveterate fudger who refuses to unstitch, I must say I am also unwilling to play games like this. If it looks good, keep it.
Nice wips kiddos! I am going to have to be forced to buy this now as CHS is closing its doors. Nice book too. It would be nice to see it in person though. x
I think that I need to join the two of you for some inspiration. I only have block one done and I could use some company, or a kick in the rear, or possibly some of that Drambuie! It looks great Annmarie!
Both Villages look lovely, great progress
I have no idea, but I just wanted to say I love your avoidance of that dastardly duty, and when we can avoid it, then we are the champions! Great job to you and Harmien on your progresses!
You piqued my curiosity, so I looked at the 'nets to find a comparison. ASSUMING example I found is correct, it looks to me like you made the golden ground out of which the illuminated "A" is reversed too wide by one line (to the left of "A") and then too long by 2 lines underneath the "A").
So, there was now no room to write out "And" underneath the illumination, as charted. So, you cleverly added a birdie to fill the space, and an ampersand (always a fan of those). The "T" in "trees" is also different, but that could just be the example I looked at.
I like it as well as or better than the original! These aren't mistakes, they're deviations!! It's just a customization, lol!!
So, did I miss any!? :D I think you should announce the "solution" on your next blog. :P
I had to laugh about your reader turnover remark--I *think* I recall you mentioning this before, but I don't think I checked it then. In any case, both are looking GREAT!! :D
I think it's great to stitch together, but I never had the experience really.
Love both your HoHRH, I'm making an other one.
happy easter with Pelle!
The HRH series is just great for SALs. I must admit that I envy you a bit for being able to actually sit together and stitch on this SAL. I will soon have the whole series but have started to stitch on the Houses and have only two of them done. I don't know if I will ever get to Village. But if not I can still dream of it ...
You both have gorgeous villages, and you did a great job of correcting your boo-boo. Enjoy SALing!
Both villages are looking great and I doubt if anyone would have noticed your boo-boo if you hadn't mentioned it!
I am still intrigued to know your 'scary story' so please put me out of my misery and tell all!
Hy, I've found your blog this moorning: I love it, 'cause I love primitive designs. Have a lovely sunday!
Argante
Well, I couldn't find the difference.
It looks just fine to me.
How nice that you and Harmien get to stitch together. Would you give her a big hug next time you see her and tell her it's from me?
Don't worry about the stitchy gift hon - whenever you have time. I am leaving this week and heading back to Canada for May 1st.
All I can say is, "Thank God for faithful stitchers like you who have the guts to admit there are some of us who don't like to frog!!!" I'm just like that and I'll do everything known to man to fudge a piece to my heart's delight! Just be happy that it's all your own, which I suppose you do anyway, knowing the royal You, Annemarie! LOL Love your improvs, better by far than the original. Kathy would be proud. :]
