Getting ready for Fall

Still stitching! Amazing, but true. Behold:

This is Blackbird Design’s delightful Summer Basket, one of my many (many) WIPs. Last year I finished Rites of Spring, and every time I see it (which is several times a day), it fills me with absolute joy, and I think Summer Basket will have the same effect on me, so it needs to be finished some time soon. Also because we in The Netherlands are enjoying (?) the hottest Spring in the history of ever. In fact, we’ve skipped Spring altogether and plunged straight into the hottest depths of Summer. Which is why it seems only fair to me that we, in turn, skip Summer and get ready for a very early Fall. Fall in July. That sounds like heaven to me. And what does one need when the weather gets cooler? You’re absolutely right: one needs blankets, and lots of them.

I know you’re probably sick and tired of my crafty excusions, but I’ve been crocheting up a storm, making cat blankets. And they’re too, too cute, gorgeous, lovely, snuggly, warm, cozy, easy and quick to do. Most of you have pets, right? Tell me, wouldn’t these make perfect blankies for all of your furry creatures? Blankets for Quill and her colleagues, for Master Stewey, Miss Maddy, Thomas and Maisie, for Dagi, for Mia, for Elvis perhaps, for Barbara’s chickes and all her other critters? Ladies, try it. You won’t regret it, and your beasties will be eternally grateful.

Another reason for my cats to be thankful (I think) is the fact that they now have a little safe place in our garden to enjoy life outside our sweltering home.

The possibilities with this thing are pretty much endless, as you see. Now I don’t have to lock Pelle in the crawl space anymore: he can just sit out there with the kitties!

Life in the woods has been... ahem... trying, to say the least. Pelle was home with pneumonia for a total of four weeks (the crawl space is rather draughty, I must admit). He’s over the worst, but not back to his old self. Still, I sent him to school today because Mama needs to work. Hard. Because Mama managed to delete her entire translation from her computer due to sleep deprivation and she has to start all over again. Which means that Mama now needs to finish two translations in five weeks. Five weeks to translate about 500 pages. That’s 100 pages per week... Hey, that’s not so bad. I can do that!

If only I didn’t have to get ready for Fall and crochet all these blankets.

Yours cheerfully,
Annemarie

It IS gorgeous, well done! Love the cat blankets too. Hugs to Pelle for the nasties which have gone, I hope, and to you that you get the translations done. Spring has been pretty darn nice in this neck of the woods too!

Hasn't the weather been odd? Gorgeous, but definitely more July than April. At least today it's below 20C!

Lovely, lovely blankets! Yes, I'm sure T&M would love one, but only if their Aunt Annemarie makes one for them, because her crochet skills are way more advanced than their mama's! ;) I really must get going on some crochet again after my small foray last year - I have good intentions, but that's all they are, intentions.

Good luck with the translations, you can do it. Hope Pelle is fully recovered soon too!

I never get tired of your crafty endeavors! Beautiful stitching and LOVE those blankies!

Sorry that Pelle's been so ill. I'm glad to hear he's on the mend. Hope you're able to catch up on your rest and your work (sorry about your lost translation...that's nothing like the movie Lost In Translation is it???)

Ok, blankets..........cool
Pelle getting well......cool
Cat enclosure.......cool
But now that my computer is fixed and it actually uploads ENTIRE pages, this is the first time I've seen YOUR PHOTO in the side bar.
This is going to sound very strange, but you're HOT!! What a nice photo. Mine always come out like prison-camp ID photos.
Enjoy your warm weather. It's been raining her for nearly two weeks straight.

My niece used to get in the dog's kennel. She'd bark then put her stuffed toys in her mouth and shake her head. If only child rearing were that easy! LOL. I hope your hot spring isn't a portent for our summer. Last summer was hot enough thankyouverymuch.

Cute picture of toi! And Pelle enjoying the new playroom. And the blankies, the thought of which make me shudder, because we are also having an early and intense summer and it's so hot. Happy translating!

Well, you made me laugh again. I have this picture in my head of Barbara's chickens running around dressed in your crocheted blankets.
Glad to hear you are doing well.
Hopefully Pelle is feeling much better and enjoying your lovely spring weather.
Here someone turned on the outside tap and it has stopped raining since. Home from Arizona and sure could use a little warmth and sunshine
Hugs

Oh no! You deleted accidentally? Oh no! Good luck with all the translating. I hope your little is back to normal soon -- it's so terrible when our kids get sick. I love your WIP. And the crochet cat blankets -- LOVE IT!!! What a great idea! So pretty too!

Love love love the catblankets. What a great idea, but we don't have any pets. But blankets for the kids are okay too, aren't they? I'm still a bit in basketmanialand, so no blankets here. Yet. But it feels like it's going to happen soon.
I think our Summer will be cold enough to use yarn and fabric all the time.

Love the outhouse for the kitties (and Pelle and his duck). I really hope Pelle will feel better soon.

Good luck on the translations, you can do it!

Wow, good luck with the translations. I hope you get them all done. As for the WIPs and finishes, bravo to you. I love the blankets. I have fleeces all over the house for Yes Dear to lay on. She loves them. And your stitching WIP is looking good. I like the colors in it. Hope you had a happy Easter!!

My very dearest cheri'.

Please do not give my stupid mo-ther any more ideas and/or any more delusions of grandeur that she is at all capable of making me a crocheted blanket.

As I type this, she is stuck in the corner of the studio, wound tighter than a Swiss watch over the prospects of having to figure out how to remove the label from a skein of yarn.

I would, however, love to know where I might purchase the "lovely little summer house" that she will most assuredly enjoy on the back patio this year.

Yours devotedly,
Master Stewey Angus Willowswamp, His Very Little Self

P.S. My very warmest regards to Master Pelle. I am relieved to hear that he is feeling better now.

Oh I love your outside solution for Pelle's safe play! He could use a chicken or two for company, maybe. LOL! And your kitty blankets - can I preorder for Christmas? :D Your stitching is so lovely that it actually makes me want to pull out that design, even though it's one of my least favorite designs. ;)

LOL! Girl, you crack me up, as always!!! My husband always told people, when our kids were little, that we hung them up by their toenails when we got them home, if they were bad, and that's why they were so well behaved, lol! The looks we got!!!Too bad we didn't have a crawlspace to use, lol!
Anyway, your stitching is lovely, as always, and of course, I am very jealous of the kitty blankets. What I wouldn't give to be able to make a granny square quilt for myself! Alas, my crocheting skills are lacking in recent years :-/
Poor Mr. Pelle...sick for so long with the flu. I do think your new contraption outdoors will help keep him well ;-)
Kisses to him and hugs to you. Love to see you posting!
xoxo

So sorry to hear about Pelle being unwell.

I'm sure Elvis would love a blanket such as yours, but his mummy is already into so many things that she doesn't really have time to make him one. So if you would, please... ;o) Plenty of time in between those 100 pages a week to crochet him one.

Good luck with the translations! Fingers crossed that you will get it all done in time.

Love the idea of crocheting the cat blankets. I think I may need to make a cat quilt for Othello. Don't you think he needs one? I'm hoping Pelle is over being sick and you get your translations done very quickly!

Well when do you think will be Fall?, hopefully next year:) Wishing your Pelle a speedy recovery:)
Happy Hare Saaie Majesteit dag, yes I will enjoy that,if it's not to crowded lol.

Poor Pelle-that's a long time to be sick with pneumonia. I had it too and didn't know it-back in the middle of January when I was in the hospital for 3 nights as I had my appendix out too. I'm pretty good now-watching my diet as I had funky blood test results. I
Anyway...you are a beautiful crocheter lady! Have you tried clothing like purses and hats? I also crochet, but it comes in spurts.

We are having the the summer temps too! Pollen explosion with us coughing and sneezing. It's strange weather!

Sorry to hear Pelle's not been well, glad he's on the mend.

Your BBD and the blankets are looking lovely.

Good luck with meeting your deadlines.

Well, they are saying we will pay for this summer weather in July with cold and rain so...early fall...right? Sorry to hear that your little man has been sick and his mama deleted all her hard work. Hope you catch up without too much heartache.

I see you are hooked too. I love the idea of a kitty blanket for Dagi. Can I steal one of yours??? Lol! I am actually making him a quilted pillow that he lays on over the heater to take his beauty sleep. Huh...like that beautiful cat needs those kind of naps...his mommy does but not him. :-)

Did you plant your pumpkin patch this year?

Hugs en groetjes ~
Heidi

Ouch on the accidental deletion - that really stinks. The BBD, on the other hand, is absolutely wonderful, and so are the blankets.

Oh, I adore your cat blankets!
Thank you so much for your comment on my blog - and the birthday wishes :) They put a smile on my face. :)

I am sorry about Pelle being so sick - and about you losing an entire translation! :(

Happy to see, however, that you are still creating so much beauty. Wow!
