In which I share my solution

Ooh, that touched a cord, didn't it? That picture of my WIP/UFO pile? As some of you so rightly pointed out, that wasn't even all. I know, I know. But you did manage to make me feel okay about this awful situation. Some of you even went so far as to say they feel less guilty about their own state of stitchy affairs after seeing the pitiful state of most of my projects. Awww. You're all so sweet.
Look. Here's some more. Most of these came from the deepest, darkest corners of my UFO drawer, where the sun literally never shines.

The Blue Lady, the Pistols, Mrs. Slocombe is nowhere to be seen. That's because she doesn't count. A couple of months ago, the wonderful Anna van Schuurman (aka Stitch Bitch) asked some of us bloggers to tell the stitchy blogging community what their favourite ever cross stitch project is. If you want to know why The Blue Lady, the Pistols, Mrs. Slocombe doesn't count as a WIP (she's never a UFO), then please read this.

Thank you for you suggestions on how to tackle this Mount Snowdon of a WIP/UFO pile. I took some of your advice and mixed it all up and came up with a solution: I put them all back in their bags.

Except for this one:
A project I like to call the Birds, by Edith Hansen for Fremme. It's nearly finished! And it has a spring-like feel to it that I really like. Excusez les wrinkles, but I won't iron my projects before they're done.

And of course I started something new in the form of this:

Pipien was too busy with her ablutions to look up, so you can't really see the resemblance between her and the stitched one. Pantoef, of course, was happy to oblige. The design is from Cross Country Stitching magazine.

I'm still waiting for the mail to deliver the exchange gift I stitched/wrought for Melissa. Her exchange gift for me arrived here in record time, but mine is taking for-bloody-ever! That's why I keep bothering you with my completely uninteresting Wips and UFOs, you see. I wouldn't have anything else to talk about!

Oh, hang on! I was nominated. Tagged, if you will. For the Beautiful Blogger award! By Charlene! Isn't that sweet? Thank you, dear Charlene, I'm flattered! I'm going to be a complete pain and not play by the rules. I won't nominate 7 other bloggers, because there are too many of you. Seriously. If I love your blog, then I have probably already expressed my fan-dom in my comments. No need to do it here. I will, however, answer the question that goes with this award, i.e. name 7 unknown-ish facts about yourself. I'm not sure that after five years of blogging I still have secrets you don't know about, but here we go:

1. I was not a good girl while growing up. I spent some time in a police cell. And I spent precious little time at school, thinking the fair cities of The Hague and Rotterdam were much more enjoyable than that awful, smelly, seventies school building.

2. I can't wink.

3. When I grow up, I want to be a lady enjoying her blue flower garden, in a blue-gray dress, with a blue hat, and with pink hair, at peace with herself and with the world.

4. I hate brushing my teeth. I do it, but I hate it. Pelle's teeth: ditto.

5. If being a recluse would be socially acceptable and not frowned upon by my family and friends, I would be a recluse.

6. I am horribly afraid I may have become a cat lady because there are so many cute cat projects to be stitched.

7. I live in the middle of the woods, all alone (with my small son, of course) but I've never, ever been afraid to go outside alone. Not ever. Until a couple of months ago, when I got such a dreadful, heart-stopping scare that now I'm afraid to even open my door late at night. If you want to know that story (and it's a good one) let me know in the comments, so I can share in a next post.

Okay. This was a long post and I'm sorry. Blame the award. And the stitching. And yourself, because you all keep coming back!

Yours all over the placely,

Annemarie.

Oooh, I'm glad you picked up the bird WIP, it's such a lovely design!

And I'm sure I won't be the only one begging you to share the scare story...

You have some really beautiful WIPs! I love the spring birds you kept out of the drawer. It has such a peaceful feel to it.

I have also become a cat lady, but I have more of the real thing than stitching projects! I would love to hear what happened late one night, but I hope everything is OK.

Another impressive WIP pile. What is the piece on the salmon colored fabric? Looks very interesting.
Now, tell me the story of your night time scare please.

It is such a relief to see that others have the same UFO and WIP problems.... though it is a good problem to have! I also tend to be very reclusive and if it weren't for my young children, I doubt I would leave the house as much as I do. Your story sounds interesting - please do tell!

So what gave you such a fright out in your idyllic bit of heaven there, Annemarie? Stumble over one of your pesky neighbors doing a bit of illicit gardening in your garden late at night or something? A really menacing wild bunny? Do tell!!

Oh yes, please share your scary story, I cannot imagine what could scare you so badly.

As to the state of your UFO's - you are much braver than I to pull them out and post them on your blog - my hat is off to you! I personally think that its not about finishing something ( although that is real nice) - its about enjoying what you are working on.... so enjoy.

I'd like to hear the story too...

I've found that if I can't decide what to stitch and nothing at all is calling to me, then I just pick up something and put one-two lengths of thread in it and then put it away again. Repeat for as many WIPs as I feel like stitching on and usually I start to get an urge to stitch on something in particular. Looking at the latest picture, you certainly like large projects, don't you? ;) That oriental lady on the coral fabric is stunning, but OMG huge!

You'll never have as many WIPS as me, lady. Even when you have pink hair. ;)

Also, if you take that final "/" out of the link to my blog it will work fine. Hear that everyone? Annemarie's story about the pistols is here.

I like the one you've kept out - it's so fresh and springy. Although I really want to see the coral fabric one finished. Nic (A Girl As Mad As Birds) has declared this the year of the UFO - she is going through her stack and deciding whether she should finish or (gasp) fling projects. She says she's shocked at the number of things that were almost done, and she can't remember why she put them down. http://beebarfsblog.blogspot.com/

I would also be content to be a recluse, and my kids have the same tendencies. Uh oh.

Loved hearing more about you
Annemarie - we have a lot in common! I definitely want to hear the story!! :)

Good choice - love this design.

Sweeeeeeet new start.

Ha! Ha! Know this great scary story. You are too funny my friend.

P.S. The birds are beautiful by the way! :)

I would love to be a recluse too :o)) Please share your scary story, I am dying to know what happened.

My take away from seeing all your wips/ufos - I need more scroll frames! One measly set does not allow me to fully explore the possibilities of wip accumulation! I'm leaving now to visit the Nordic Needle website. :D

You're such a tease, Annemarie! Of course we want to hear about the scare! All in graphic Annemarie style!

I have been stalking the postman every day! Not only is yours on the top of the list, but I'm also awaiting some very late stashy mail! *sigh* Maybe it will be a super mail day today and they'll arrive all at once. Will let you know asap! ;-)

Aww, look at those sweet kitties. It seems they get along very well. All my black cats (3 males) get along amazingly well. Their closeness is a bit spooky infact. Elliot, the brown stripie and Carmella the orange stripie are rather independent of the group.
Yes, do tell the scary story, if it's not too scary for you to relive.

Melanie said...

I wouldn't worry about your UFO's, we all have them. Mine are in a basket which is overflowing, we go through phases of likeing different things.
I "think" I want to hear the scary story!
Lovely stitching as always.

Love the bird wip and the opportunity to learn a little more about you. And as everyone else, storytime is the best time.

Interesting facts! Please share your scary story next post.

Oooh yes the Fremme one is lovely. I think you need to remeber that it's your hobby dearie and you can stitch or not stitch - it's up to you. I personally just like starting new things. Is that okay? Are there really any rules? Some folks are in it for the end result. I'm in it for the journey haha cheesy or what?

As sad as I am to say, I haven't known your blog for five years, so please, do, tell!

Ah - they call me anti-social at work, and my DS says I'm almost a hermit. I will say, I like the sound of recluse better!

I'm just in awe of all the wonderful WIPs that you have. The one on the far right I have the pattern for and always wanted to do it - but alas - to many WIPs of my own. But you have some wonderful ones!! And I'd love to hear the story about being afraid of opening your door. I can't even imagine living alone in the woods!

Blu said...

Nice new start.
And you have to share the story after that tease!

Catherine said...

Wow! That is an impressive pile of WIP'S!!

You have peeked the curiosity of every cat that reads this blog - did you honestly think you wouldn't?? Now let's hear the rest of the story - what scared you so.....

Siobhán said...

I enjoyed your interesting facts. Add my voice to the chorus of people who want to hear your story!

Ally said...

Love the kitties - that Pantoef really knows how to pose for the camera, anyone would think he had extensice practice!

I love the birds too, and also the Quaker at the back and the mediaeval lady (looks like a LOT of work, that one).

Berit said...

That enormous redhead; wow!

Yay for cat photos (and cat-wips!)

Thanks to Anna's heads up about the link, I finally understand about the Blue Lady. :)

Okay, we definitely want that story.

I enjoyed your "7 Things". I put off posting mine because...I don't know why. Can I make them entertaining without revealing too much about myself? Would they even be cheerful? I think that 60-75% would be pretty deflating. *hmmnn*.

I came her via Charlene's blog. I too would love to know the pattern of the lady on the salmon colored piece. It looks like a huge project.

Susan said...

Let's hear the scary story!

So you have a few unfinished projects - who doesn't? Although I'm sure someone out there only does one stitchery at a time but is that normal?

Happy Stitching!

Brigitte said...

I love stitchers to show pictures of all their WIPs. And then I wish they were all mine. That's weird, isn't it?

anneke said...

I want to hear the woods-story, living near the woods myself.
what made you so afraid???

and about the WIPS, I have an idea: can't you get stitching companions to stitch an UFO, one in every continent of the world?? It sounds adventurous (?), your pile will be gone. (and I don't have to stitch for you for I'm on the same continent ;-))

Please tell us what you are stitching on the big coral linen, it is beautiful!
