The hooky term for a happy dance is, I believe, a Ta-daah moment (or something to that effect), so I’m very happy, proud and pleased to be able to show you Pelle’s blanket:
I really do.
I really, really love it.
And so does Pelle. Over the weeks, he’s watched it grow, he told me which colours to use where, he knows there are 79 stripes (well, 79 coloured stripes. There are actually 79 x 2 stripes, two rows for every colour, but I’m too stupid to... oh hang on... that’s 158 stripes, isn’t it? Not so stupid after all.), and he adores his blanket. Takes it everywhere whenever he spends a night at the daycare centre. As I said, 79 stripes, 13 colours of Annell Malmédy and 1 Rowan Felted Tweed (the red). Four rows of double crochet along the border, finished with a simple yet effective crab stitch. I love it.
And now for something I’m not so pleased with. The second of the 8 socks. The knitting is going swimmingly, but, but... sigh...
I asked Pelle’s four teachers what their favourite colours were. For someone who does so little knitting, I have an embarrassingly huge pile of sock yarn in the back of my closet, so I was sure I could find something in there for everyone. Turns out 3of the 4 teachers have the same favourite colour.
And it’s purple.
Now I have nothing against purple. I really don’t. I just wouldn’t dream of wearing it, let alone knit a whole pair of socks with anything even remotely resembling purple. Thus, there was no purple in my sock yarn stash. I went in search of some purple sock yarn, and found a couple of very yummy skeins of Katia Olé. Knit up one sock in pinky-purply very yummy berry yarny. Then, in order to try and prevent Second Sock Syndrom from striking me mid-knit, I started a sock for another pair, with a very lovely purple and green, heathery coloured yarn. Well, that’s what it looked like on the skein anyway. Knitted up, it looks more like something that was dredged up out of a puddle of raw sewage.
I asked Harmien for advice and her answer was just what I expected: she loves it. Now, either she says that because she loves me and doesn’t want to hurt my feelings, or she has appalling taste. What do you think? Do I continue with this thing and even make a second one, or do I dump it in the nearest bin? Help me, darlings, and don’t you dare spare my feelings. Regarding the sock, that is. I don’t want any negative comments about my blanket. Pelle’s blanket. Sorry, Pelle’s blanket...
Yours curled up under a striped blanky even though it is rather hot outside and even hotter inside and the promise of Fall was only just a promise and now I’m a little sad-ly,
Annemarie.

I love that yarn, AnneMarie. And Pelle's blanket is beautiful!
:)
I must have appalling taste because I think it looks lovely - purple is one of my favourite colours though. Well done on the blanket, it's fantastic, and Pelle looks really happy with it.
Pelle's blanket is just beautiful and it looks quite luxurious in his cart, all it needs now is a hood :)) indeed Pelle's blanket!!
The purple sock, lovely lovely, I know what you mean with purple but it's not really purple.....
Have a good knitting week:)
Lovely blanket, I'm new to crochet and feel that I have so very much to learn.
lol! You crack me up! You must have a real aversion to purple! I think the sock -- and the yarn! -- looks great! I love the colors in it! I know though. It's so hard to knit something if you're not into the color you're using. Do what you can -- if you can't tolerate it, trash it!
As for the blanket -- it's lovely!! Such pretty colors, such a pretty design too! I'm glad Pelle loves it so much too! (Oh, and I'm bad at math too. lol!)
I happen to really like those socks and must insist they look nothing at all like raw sewage. With a houseful of cats, dogs, and kids and a barnful of geese, ducks, chickens and goats I see A LOT of raw sewage. It does not look at all like those beautiful socks.
Pelle's blanket is just the coolest thing ever! A huge and hearty congratulations on making it in time for his birthday!! :D
Pelle's blanket is gorgeous and he obviously loves it loads!
I like the sock yarn and I don't quite see where the raw sewage comes in ;) And this is from someone who doesn't like purple that much either!
Love, love, LOVE your granny stripe! And I think the sock is great, go for it!
I love it and would wear it proudly. Don't keep focusing on the one part you don't like. The recipient certainly won't. Plus, it looks like you're heading back into a good long stretch of purple, right?
me too..i love that blanket too..so much..very lovely color:)
hugs xx
Love the blanket and the sock tool. What's wrong with it??? Looks fab. x
Well, don't just take my word for it, after all what do I know, me and my appalling taste. Thanks, dearie! But it looks like YOU're the odd one out with your peeeeerfect taste...! Prefectly weird, I mean... Toedeloe!!
You crack me up. I think the sock looks great--love the color!
CONGRATULATIONS on Pelle's blanket. It is fantastic!! I have to get my knitting & crocheting daughters to get their rears in gear and get cranking out some finishes for me. Love what you've done!
Annemarie - that blanket is gorgeous!! How cosy and beautiful - still trying to wrap my head around Pelle being 7 already ... where DOES time go?
Tanya :)
If it's purple they like, give'em purple. That's a lovely purple by the way, quite soft.
As to Pelle's blanket, it's marvellous. I love how you've got the vertical band going around the blanket.
I love purple and I think the sock is knitting up great! It def. does not look like raw sewage. I think you should continue.
Great blanket too!
You do understand that when I checked my comments just now I HAD to run over to visit your blog and find out about this rant concerning the color purple. Now I would not have used that color for that scarf but was not intending to make a double flower scarf if not to help a friend figure it out. BUT I LOVE THAT SOCK YARN! It looks like the color of the moors. Keep knitting my dear as it is going to make a beautiful pair of socks. Perhaps you need knitting glasses to see those colors for all their beauty??? Swamp...where did that come from...lol!
Now as far as Pelle's blanket. I want one now too just like it but Heidi size. :-)
Hugs en groetjes ~
Heidi
Oops! You said sewage not swamp. :-)
I think both look great! Everyone has said over and over what I wanted to say to encourage you to keep it going and gift it. (of course if it were for you you should be done with it as you have too much great stash to work on something you don't love.)
:D
While I would love fall, I sure enjoy thinking about how far away winter is with it currently being summer. ;)
Congrats on the blanket finish!! The smile on his face says it all!
As for the sock color, I love it, I do, I really, really do!!
Those socks will be gorgeous. Purple's my fav also, and that's a great yarn. Hmm ... wonder if I can find some of that at my lys.
Congrats on your timely completion of that fancy blankie.
When I was in high school, my favorite color combo was purple and green. I think I had a shirt that color. Keep knitting it!
And that blanket is fabulous! Lucky kid.
Your blanket for Pelle is really nice! Great work. And belated congratulations, by the way ;)
Groetjes, Carolien
The blanket looks wonderful. Pelle especially looks happy with it and the fact that he helped makes it even more special.
I like the socks. The color looks sunset-ty to me.
I'm late catching up on blogs, sigh... so I missed the previous post with the fab bokfiets picture - wonderful! Pelle's blanket is just gorgeous, and just look at that big smile on his face :-) no wonder you're pleased with it.
The sock is "interesting" - I say go for it! The blanket is a wonderous creation of love in a tangible form!
Love the blanket. :)
That's too funny re: purple. My mother wants nothing BUT purple socks so I knit them up quite a bit. I don't mind the colors in that yarn one bit but I'm a bit lax, admittedly, when it comes to colors. (Example: I don't mind yellow or orange socks either.)
Now listen, that sock is a great color and I really hope the teacher that gets them isn't reading your blog!!!! Pelle's blanket is beautiful.
Blanket looks wonderful, especially with that particularly adorable 7-year-old boy wrapped up in it. (Happy birthday to Pelle!!)
Socks? Well, . . . I, um, er, . . . have to agree with Harmien. Sorry, Annemarie, but it appears that you have been outvoted in the sock color category, so it looks like you'll be stuck knitting a lot of (in your opinion) sewage-colored socks. Perhaps you could try knitting at night . . . in a dark room . . . with your eyes closed. And barring that, just keep reminding yourself that you won't have to look at this color for very long anyway since you'll have them all finished up by next week.
:-)
Knit on - it's great, and the lucky purple lover will be delighted! As for Pelle's blankie - it is adorable! Love it!!
Thanks for stopping by our bloggie and leaving a sweet comment...Yes, especially Cornish Rex...but cats are so much alike around the world and while I may complain about dirty footprints all around my bathroom sink, I love the cute behavior they do by drinking out of the faucets. I even bought a dish that fits on the faucet for fresh sips anytime and they love it. It's called a Sink Drink

You can find it on Amazon.
I love the sock yarn. What type/brand is it? The blanket is gorgeous and I can tell Pelle will treasure it for all his life (or IT'S life, until it disintegrates from loving). Stick with the socks. Hand-knit gifts are hard to come by these days and are greatly appreciated.
The blanket is gorgeous, congratulations
