I love it. In fact, I love it so much that I started another letter from the Alphabet Series straight away, to wit: L is for Leaves. But, yup, you’ve guessed it, I forgot to take a pic. And really, I’ve only finished one tiny leaf, so you’re not missing much.
The socks I’m knitting for gifts are boring to knit and would no doubt be boring to behold, so I’m showing you a little something I did by way of light entertainment a couple of days ago:
This sock pattern is called Hwæt!, designed by The Sanguine Gryphon, and it features the first part of the Old English verse Beowulf. This bit of knitting was just a little trial. I knew it would probably be too small, and it is: can’t get it over my ankle (which isn’t even that fat), but I just wanted to see if I could do two-stranded knitting. I think I can now, and will be casting on a larger size once the gift socks are out of the way. Just so you know? I. Am. Smitten.
Ooooooooh, I’m also smitten with Harry Potter!!!! I know I’m awfully late joining the party, but I’ve just finished The Philosopher’s Stone (which I had already read), and I’ve started part two (which I have also already read, back in the day when part four [The Goblet of Fire] hadn’t even been released yet), and I have every intention of finishing all seven of the books before the end of the year. It’s very difficult to navigate your way around all the spoilers that circulate on the internet, though. I already know things about the plot I really don’t want to know yet. Just so you know, though, I couldn’t give a toss about Harry P. himself (sacrilege!). It’s Snape I’m interested in. But then I always go for the dark, mysterious, broody types :o)
Pelle is away for two whole nights and three whole days, so I’m off to enjoy a very lavish little holiday, filled with knitting, reading, stitching, reading, gardening, reading and maybe a bit of sleeping too. Weeeeeeee!
Yours vacationingly,
Annemarie.

Weer een post? Nog meer sokken? Die Beowulfs zijn gaaf!
Wow you are busy showing us your wares, fabulous! Love the Vineyard, congrats!
Gorgeous socks Annemarie, my mum always told me it was easy 2 strands, yeaaah for her!! will follow your progress closely of course:o)
Harry is just gorgeous, but that would be cradle snatching! He is now in a play where he slowly takes his clothes of ROFLOL, more of that later haha
Enjoooooy the break !
:-)
Hey Annemarie!
Everything looks great and it is great that you are taking such joy in your crafts and reading.
Life is good!
I love that Prairie Schooler design.
Oooh yay you have finished the fox! Lovely. I am impressed you have mastered two colours in knitting. Something I have not tried yet. Have a good holiday. xx
wow..fox is looking so sweet..i love it too..very sweet stitching..
i love to knit too..and your is looking so nice..
keep well and have a lovely holidays xx
Enjoy your vacation. Love the Beowulf socks! My son would definitely wear a pair of those - I'm not up to two strand knitting - I'm not very good at one strand yet, but I have something to aim for.
Your progress on those socks is amazing! I begged a friend to stitch them for me and spent a small fortune on the yarn but ... no socks. :( Of course, it isn't winter, yet.
LOVE your fox finish! I was just eyeing the ABC part of the alphabet the other day. Must be your influence.
Enjoy the HP series. We're not much interested in ol' HP himself, but the cast of characters is fabulous.
Love your finish! Prairie Schooler patterns always have great colors.
Love your "Fox" (I think of it as "Fox" and not "Vineyard" too). And the Beowulf socks! Sock knitting is something I have not gotten into yet, and (whispering) have not read a single Harry Potter book.
Great Finish,love the fox!
I am a big HP fan, I have read all the books (several times) and I have all the movies and have watch them several times also.
Happy Stitching
Denise
I love those alphabet samplers by PS. I really should pull them out and get going, but too many other half-finished projects are crying for me.
I have to confess that I am a bit envious that you are only beginning to read HP - you have such great times ahead of you! I am currently listening to Jim (?) Dale reading the books on DVD in my car - this is my third round listening to them.... (yes, I am a true creature of habit!)
And just so you know - your knitting abilities intimidate me - so we are even, right!? LOL
Love your PS finish -- so cute! And the two color knitted socks -- what an interesting pattern! Now can you teach me to do two color knitting? lol! Glad you're enjoying Harry Potter! Snape is a good one to be interested in. :D Enjoy your time off!
Love your fox. Congrats.
Your socks are lovely too. I fell in love with knitting socks too, and with the wool of Sanguine Gryphon. Are you member of Ravelry btw?
And I admire you knitting with 2 round needles. I tried it but can't get the hang of it, which is a pity. I'm stuck with 5 needles...lol.
Love the stitching you ARE schowing, even the socks... I'm no fan of sock-knitting but I knitted a winterhat a few weeks ago.
Enjoy your free time!!!
A Snape fan whatever you do avoid the last lines of the final book until you actually get to them.
Vineyard is lovely! One of the best vacations I had was one where I read the first 4 Harry Potter books - one right after the other! So enjoy for mini-vacation!
Aw, your Fox is awesome, great finish! can't wait to see your Leaves progress. I have several of those letters I'd love to do someday, the whole series is great, but some of them are just wonderful...leaves are one!
Girl, you're an amazing knitter, those socks are too cool!
Enjoy your Mommy break :)
Oh, wonderful! :o Everything about this post is just tops.
Congrats on finishing the lovely fox! Leaves is a very nice one too. Snape is the most fascinating character in the HP saga (but I have to love Hermione - we even have the same birthday!). I almost envy you being able to read the books for the first time and get all the surprises. Enjoy!
LOL, I hope you get caught up on everything while he's gone, Annemarie, cause he'll miss you!!! Your stitching looks great, and can't wait for your next progress update!!
V is for Vineyard is the one my mom just stitched for our friend...it is soooooo sweet.
They are fun to do!
Enjoy your break, and rest and read and stitch and eat and sleep and and and...oh boy, you will be tired! lol.
Congrats on finishing up the fox. He looks darling.
The socks look to be a truly unique knitting experience. What a clever little pattern!
(I didn't read HP until the very last book was out - patience is not my forte and I read it all up in less than a month. Can't imagine having to wait years in between book releases.)
OH, the fox is finished - and he looks fantastic. PS designs always look fantastic, I love everything in them, the colours, the motives, the style. Just looking forward to seeing the progress on your next letter.
Very cute socks that you started there.
Enjoy your little holidays!
Congrats on your PS finish! I love all of the PS designs really, but most especially the alphabet series. I hope you enjoy the 3 days on your own - as much as you will miss your little guy, I'm sure the break is well deserved. And congrats also on the 2 colour knitting! That was something that got the better of me.
Love the Beowulf socks. Amazing! Enjoy your break.
Those socks are too cool! I was just listening to a podcast about the Beowulf Tapestry from Stuff You Missed In History. It was great.
Love love love that fox!! I have seen a few foxes around here so now want to stitch things with foxes. PS does some great fox designs. I also had this idea that I'd do a bunch of the alphabet designs and scatter them throughout the house. Seeing as I haven't stitched one yet, I am now thinking I might just stitch the 'm is for mermaid' part of the design and make them into pin pillows. Or, to be more exact, put them into the cabinet with the intention of making them into pin pillows...
Lucky you, reading HP again! I love Snape!
Congrats on your finish Anne Marie - love it! You'er on a roll now....keep the good stuff coming!
Oh my goodness! I came upon your blog and read every word of it. I love it. Interesting, friendly, newsy and just plain fun. I became a follower instantly! Thank you for a great place to visit.
