Foxiness galore

It’s official: I have no taste. You came here in droves to tell me that the sock I was knitting looked lovely in its sewage-ness, so I plodded on and finished it. Alas, I forgot to take a picture because I was in such a dreadful hurry because I finish-finished something else and am on the point of finishing another something else and I'm so insanely busy with all of this crafting and gift-making that I hardly have time to breathe! Okay, let's go. Last things first. Look what I discovered in my UFO drawer:

Isn’t it fabby? I remember putting it away some... ohhhhh, six years ago, because I ran out of DMC 523 (which is, of course, a perfectly good reason to stick something in a drawer and never take it out until you find it by accident and fall in love with it all over again). Since recovering it from the dreaded UFO drawer, I’ve already filled in most of the grass and I have high hopes of being able to show you a finish pretty soon.

Now what do you think I found when I unfolded the fabric?

Squeeeeee! A finish!

From 2005. It is in serious need of framing, don’t you think?

Next Thursday will be Pelle’s last day at his medical daycare centre. On the 22nd of August he will be going to a proper school - well, a proper school for children who are not right in the head, obviously, but still, a proper school. I’m sure you will hear much more about it when the new school year is underway. Knowing my wee one, he’s not going to enjoy the first couple of months very much. Anyway, as a sort of thank-you-and-goodbye-gift, I’m knitting the infernal socks for the teachers, but I also wanted something special for the lady who accompanies the kids in the school bus, Erika. She is the loveliest woman ever, she’s 71 years old (!) and she’s very special to Pelle and to me. She never wears a coat or anything, because that’s too much hassle with al those children who need so much help getting in and out of the bus, but she loves to wear thick sweaters with cowls, in order to keep warm in the winter. Last year, I started a cowl for myself, and it was very nearly finished. It just happened to have all of Erika’s favourite colours in it (judging from the clothes she wears), and so I finished it this morning, with the intention of giving it to her. I must admit I’m totally and completely and madly head over heels in love with it, as it’s versatile, warm, soft, non-scratchy, it’s huge and it’s just... I’m crying over here... too gorgeous to give away, but I’m going to anyway. As my face currently looks like the cats used me as a scratching post, I’ve hired the services of a body double... well, a face double, really. Meet Tante Trui (or Aunt Gertrude in English):

Lovely, no?

Keep your fingers crossed that next week Ill be able to show you that stitchy finish!

Yours industriously,
Annemarie.

Don't you just love to fall in love with a WIP all over again!? What a fabulous surprise.
The cowl is gorgeous. I love the yarn in it. I am sure that Erika will be thrilled!

Glad you finished those infernal socks. lol! I don't think it has anything to do with good or bad taste. It has to do with what pleases your particular color sense. You just don't like purple. lol!

Love your found WIP! Love the finish too! I always love PS.

And that cowl! Gorgeous! I can see why you're sad to give it away, but it sure sounds like you're giving it to someone who deserves it.

Found WIPs are fun (most of the time), especially when you fall in love again. Beautiful finish. And the cowl is a wonderful thank you to a very wonderful woman.

I'm sure that Erika will just love the cowl, it's so gorgeous. And I love the PS alphabet series, so of course can't wait to see the fox finished :-)

No, I can hear you on the socks in a way--I haven't been into the green/purple combo since 4th grade. :D But, they were a lovely and normal and not disgusting colorway.

OH, A PS!!!!!! And not just any, but THE very same I have been pining to see for a while. You do know that I am all about foxes, right?? What a day-maker; thank you Annemarie!

Ah, both the cowl (and sweet Gertrude) are lovely; I can see why you are loathe to gift it away! Perhaps this calls for the immediate starting of another for yourself-to-keep-come-hell-or-high-water. :D

First off, the cowl you knitted is beautiful! I'm sure she will love it and you're very generous and kind to give it away. Quick now you'll have to start another for yourself!

The Fox is fabby for sure! Love PS and I had to laugh when you found the finished piece attached! It will be seriously gorgeous framed!

Being a mom, I can sense a level of anxiety with Pelle moving to a new school. "Keep Calm & Stitch on!"

The fact that you love it so makes it all the more special for this wonderful lady. :)

I remember you brought the fox over to my house once to work on it, right before you ran out of the right thread. ;)

Wishing Pelle and you all the best with the big upcoming adjustment.

Oh you really need to finish the Fox block - I've always liked that one and yes yes do frame up the embroiderere one! I have a stack of unframed pieces and several UFO's but all you can do is make a little progress when you can. You are so close to a finish on the fox it should be an easy finish.

Your socks and knitting are very cute, I can't hardly knit but don't dare learn much more as I don't need more hobbies LOL.

I keep watching your proress on The Blue Lady which I know you have worked on for a few years. It must be huge!

I hope Pelle settles down quickly at his new school and how sweet of you to give that lovely cowl to Erika - I'm sure she'll love it!

Oh, I'm so happy you fell in love with that fox again, because I LOVE it! Can't wait to see you finish him! Your E is for Embroidery is awesome. I stitched that back then (05 was it?) and had it framed and then gave it away. I sorta regret it, lol!
That cowl you made for Erkia is just lovely. What a special gift for someone so dear....bet she loves it!
Praying all goes well for Pelle in his new school and that he adjusts so quickly that it surprises you :)
Your picture with the kitty (in the sidebar) is adorable!!!

What a lovely find - a finish and an almost finished! What a generous one you are - giving away the warm, cozy you were knitting for yourself. Only to think of the kind, sweet soul who has cared for your dearest one for this time. How else could you do? There will be another one for you that you love even more!

I just found your blog!!!! And that made my day. How could I ever not have found it.
Couldn't find a thing without taste, and I browsed around a lot. All is beautiful.
Your fox is so very lovely, so are you knitted goods.
And to exercise my dutch (lived for 16 years in the Netherlands...lol) Het is er allemaal prachtig.

Asses Pelle's going to school!!! Yay!! Ian sure he will love it once he gets there. Ha ha I had to laugh when I saw aunt Gertrude! The scarf looks lovely. Great finish. I have several finishes all rolled up together. I just haven't the funds at the minute to get them framed. I may ask for them to be done for Christmas this year. Now, go and finish that fox missus!!!! Xx

Really really love the colors in "Foxy" - finish it up fast so I might admire your work!

Isn't it great to open our WIP boxes and drawers and unearth some of the beauties being in there? I always enjoy doing so and there's just one UFO that I don't like seeing again. It's not a PS project, of course, lol. Oh, I love both your PS letters and I'm looking forward to seeing that little fox finished.
I'm sure that Erika will just love the beautiful cowl you finished for her. She seems to be a remarkable woman.
Wishing Pelle the very best for his start at the new school.

What a great treasure you uncovered! And I know why you put it away - the unfinished stitching is green lol.
And to find a lovely finish there too. How cool is that!
I know that cowl is too gorgeous to part with but what a lovely thank you gift it will make.
I hope Pelle will do well with his new school after an adjustment period.

The Fox is lovely, I do like PS but never seem to get to stitch them. Good to hear you finished the socks, I can imagine them!
Good luck to Pelle starting a new school, terrifying for any child thinking back....
The one with the spec's and trying to knit without needle's is my favourite:)
Have a sunny sunday!
