The stitching bug is BACK!

The stitching bug is BACK, honeybuns! I realised last week that looking at my growing pile of current WIPs was like standing at the foot of Mount Snowdon in your walking shoes and knowing that you have to climb that mother (I've been there. It's not for the faint of heart). The best way to go about it, I thought, was to put on my big girl's blouse as well as my walking shoes and finish some stuff. Do you know I haven't finished a thing since the start of this year apart from a small tulip?

First of all, I got the Blog Contest gift out of the way. You remember the one? The tulip cornucopia that had me all in a twitter because I thought it was too fall-like for a Spring gift? Here it is in all its finished glory:

This is an old freebie by Blackbird Designs, called Savoir Faire. Hopefully this will arrive before Annemiek has the chance to visit this blog :o) See those dangly red things at the bottom of those cords? They're my first (and last) attempt at tassle making.

I accomplished another thing that warrants a happy dance, even though no cross stitching was involved. I mounted Mrs Slocombe onto a huge (HUGE) scroll frame that I found at a LNS last Friday. I could have finished Rites of Spring in the time it took me to scaffold the good Lady, but at least she will be manageable the next time I work on her.

In said attempt to get the current WIPs out of the way, I devoted quite some time to Nobody Loves Me.

I'm predicting a middle-of-the-week finish for this one. Barring any unforeseen circumstances. Obviously.

Now, admittedly, the WIP pile still gives me the vapours when I see it, but I didn't think that was a good enough reason not to start a new project. Last week saw the arrival of some new stash (which I am embarrassed to show you, considering the amount of stash that I had already acquired, and in this time of global crisis, too), of which this piece of stunning brilliance is my favourite:

Noah's Stocking by CHS, to go in Pelle's Happy Noah Bedroom once it's finished. In order to achieve this state of finishedness, I would like to propose a SAL. Lately I've found that the no-obligation, stitch-when-you-feel-like-it SAL works very well for me. If you feel the same way and have a CHS Stocking you would like to attempt, why don't you join me and Barbara? Starting date is Thursday April 16th, which is when I hope to be finished with my current Thursday SAL, Rites of Spring. This will also give those of you who would like to join plenty of time to get materials and what have you. The only requirement is that you post a progress pic on Thursdays, but that's it. Even two new stitches is considered progress, so I think that's completely do-able. Hey, even I can do it, and that's saying something.

Okay. Off to brew a new pot of soup (not the goat's vomit variety, because I'm out of pizzas, but a nice tomato soup, which really is very very yummy, if I do say so myself).

Yours affectionately,
Annemarie.

Oooh, great progress on Nobody Loves Me! It looks great. You'll be happy dancing in no time. Your tulip finishing is superb!! I love it, you did a wonderful job on it. YGG on the Noah Stocking. I am sorely tempted to join you & Barbara on the stocking SAL... I'll have to see how my must-stitch pile is doing by the time the start date rolls around. I have all of the charts but only 2.5of them stitched as of yet.

Annemarie,

Great job on all your projects! Wow, how do you hold that scroll frame? It looks heavy.

I love the CHS stocking that you've started for Pelle. Have you worked on your BP at all? As for me, I haven't touched it in quite some time.

Have a great week.

Carriage House Samplings is my favorite.

Noby loves me is very beautiful and you did a great job with the finishing of the tulip.

Annemiek will love it!
Have you ever participate in what she called "gezellige dagen"?

In June I'm going to Groningen again and will stay there for one night. It really great!

Thanks for sharing!

Hi Annemarie,
Lovely stitching as usual! May I join your stitch as you like SAL, I just have to narrow down which CHS stocking to do, they are all but one in my stash, now which one.......

Oh, I love that tulip, and I agree with you about tassel-making. Ugh! Nice to see the blue lady again ... tamed on a frame.

The CHS SAL is so tempting, and the fact that it's a month away makes me really think about it. We'll see what happens.

Savoir Faire turned out beautifully! And I think it looks very springy!
And you are so close to finishing Nobody!!!
I adore those CHS stockings, but will only live vicariously through you and Barbara, lol ;)
Enjoy your soup :)

I love it all and especially Nobody Loves me - I have to get this and do it - very apt. And I love Mrs. Slocombe. Do you know who she is? Because I do! Is she really named that or did you name her? Mrs. Slocombe was a character in a tv program from the 70's I think and it also starred an actress called Wendy Richard who sadly passed away about 2 weeks ago. But Mrs. Slocombe is alive and well. She was so funny. Lots of Love Patti xxx

I LOVE the blog gift you made and what good looking tassels they appear to be !

You look so close to finishing NLM :) I bought the chart for this last summer from the designer herself at a show. She is very nice :)

I must say I did not realise Mrs Slocombe was so big - infact huge seeing this picture on here, wow ! Where will she live when she has a body, hope you don't loose interest and actually stitch her one ;-)
Take care and hope your soup turned out nice xx

Yes, I remember a Mrs. Slocombe too. She was Head Saleswoman on "Are You Being Served", the British comedy set in a London department store. I think she had PINK HAIR too!!
Count me in on the SAL...it will be my first SAL, be patient.

Savoir Faire is SUPERschattig geworden!! En, holy cow, wat zijn die pistolen groot! Mijn BBD-sokjes mogen zeker niet meedoen in de sokken-SAL...mmm...?
Trustuh!!

I didn't realize Mrs. Slocombe was so large either. Definitely in need of some scroll bars. I applaud those tassels. They look wonderful. And I would love to join you on the Noah SAL but I so stink at SALs that I think I'll just watch your progress (and root you on, of course).

How many SALs can one stitcher join without bending from the weight of overcommitment? (It's a rhetorical question. No need to answer.)

Count me in on your SAL. I love the CHS Primitive Stocking so much that I bought it twice. Really. So I guess I should stitch at least one.

And besides, April 16 is a whole month away. Plenty of time for me to finish my neighborhood, . . . and my PS "Prairie Year," . . . and my various smalls, . . . and my DT "Random Thoughts," . . . oh, and do all of my finish-finishing. Right? (Another rhetorical question. Just ignore me.)

Still laughing over Linen Stitcher's comment ... she cracks me up nearly as much as you do. ;)

Hey, you've got to give me your tomato soup recipe. The kids love tomato soup and what a great way to work in the veggies. ;)

So, all I need to do is choose a linen for Noah's Stocking. And, of course, find where I hid the chart, which contains all the silks to stitch it with. But no worries. LOL.

Love your finishes - and what's wrong with those tassels? They're fabulous! :D

Annemarie,

Your BBD finish is just beautiful! I love that tulip it's so springy! and the cording and tassels are also beautiful, you did a wonderful job with them!

All of your wips are looking great and it's funny you started a CHS stocking because I was just thinking about starting one soon - Sampler Stocking. I just love it! Although I told DH our next house must have a fireplace, so I can it up year round! :) So, I would like to join the SAL - hopefully, I'll have With My Needle finished by than!! :)

What a beautiful tulip, and so nicely finished too, well done! I won't be doing the stocking SAL, but I'll be watching you fondly while you stitch yours. Glad the bug is back!

Lovely stitching. That scroll looks like just what I need for St petersburg so I'm off to look at it now.

Glad you've got the stitching bug back.

glad you have your stitching mojo back!
Just how big is your blue lady? She looks mighty huge in that strecher frame.Kudo's for you!

Anonymous said...

Well, I really shouldn't, but since I have Quaker Stocking started and it's kind of stalled at the minute, maybe I'll say yes to the stocking SAL :)

Glad to hear your mojo is back - I love the tulip cornucopia (I hate making tassels too!) and you're making great progress on NLM!

Ha, Mount Snowdon. You are talking about the hard way, I guess, lol. Noiw you put something in my head. I will always be thinking of climbing Mount Snowdon the hard way when looking at my pile of WIPs, lol.
Good to see that you got your stitching mojo back. Looking forward to seeing your first finish.
